What’s in my Zero-Waste Travel Bag?

Today I’d like to share what’s in my zero-waste travel bag! I think being mindful of what you use and how it affects our environment is so important and it’s all too easy to forget about this when you’re on the road. There are a few items I ensure I always have with me on a day out to try and minimize my waste (especially plastic-waste!) so I can look after the planet I so love to travel.

Before I get into what’s in my travel-bag, I’d like to tell you about a brand I recently found: Earth Hero! This is a brand dedicated to changing the way we shop. By creating a one-stop shop for all your eco-friendly and zero-waste items, they’re making it easier to do the right thing. Earth Hero only works with brands that are eco-friendly! Using sustainable materials and cleaner production methods they produce high quality products with a low carbon footprint and zero waste. (Click here if you would like to read more about their mission and how they’re working to achieve it.)

I genuinely love what Earth Hero stands for and I am beyond excited to partner up with them to bring you 10% off all items! Just click here and use the code: SOPHIEH10

Throughout the post I’ll include links to the products I use where possible as well as Earth Hero alternatives if you’d like to spend less. Now back to the post!

1. Water bottle /tea infuser

As I don’t trust my clumsy self with a glass bottle, I opted for an insulated, stainless steel bottle from Tea Too instead. Not only does it keep my water cold, it also doubles as a tea-infuser! (Opt for loose-leaf tea to reduce waste). Earth Hero has a lot of good options too, such as these glass tea-infuser bottles and stainless-steel water bottles.

2. Reusable Coffee-cup

If you’re out and about all day, you’re bound to end up getting some coffee. So, a reusable cup is a must. And the best part? They’re usually quite affordable! Your favorite coffee chain probably sells the oh-so popular Keep Cup. Some places will even reward you with double loyalty point if you bring your reusable cup, it’s a win-win!

3. Cutlery & Straw Set

Here’s a not-so-fun fact for you: every piece of plastic ever made is still on Earth now. That’s every single piece of plastic cutlery and straw you’ve ever used… Luckily there’s a simple and easy fix: carry around a reusable cutlery and straw set! They take up no space whatsoever and will prevent so much unnecessary waste. After use just rinse ’em off in the bathroom sink and pop them in a little pouch: easy! Let’s be honest, you don’t really have an excuse not to commit to this…

4. Sustainable Notebook

If you’re and avid travel writer you probably don’t leave the house without a notebook. Next time you fill a notebook, look into buying a new one made from recycled paper! Or even one made with no paper at all!

5. Food Containers & Covers

When packing snacks, be conscious about what you put them in. Avoid plastic baggies, cling film and aluminum foil. Instead, invest in reusable silicone bags, beeswax wraps, reusable lunch boxes or these admittedly funny looking silicone food covers. Ideally you don’t want anything made out of plastic (unless it’s 100% recycled & recyclable), as everything ends up in the bin one day. But, as long as you’re reusing you’re still doing good!

That’s it for my zero-waste travel bag! Do you have all these items in yours? Have I missed any? Let me know in the comments below x
